Although I’m no graphic design expert, I find this skill to be very useful.
I recently learnt the basics of Adobe Illustrator allowing me to easily design logos for friends and contacts but my main goal for learning was to create stickers for my bike customisation projects.
I recently restored a rare vintage Gary Fisher AL-1 mountain bike but replacement stickers weren’t available anywhere so I had to create a set myself based on all the reference photos I could find on the internet.
My own brand logo was also created with bicycles in mind, the long slimline sabarras text fits nicely on bicycle frames and the emblem was shaped to fit on a frame’s head tube. The ‘s’ within an ‘S’ emblem symbolises the creative process, the larger ‘S’ represents imagination, inspiration, problem solving – the large amount non physical processes that occur in a designer’s mind during the creative process of a project and the small ‘s’ represents the final, refined (and sometimes physical) creation.
